Red Five Point Star ‘punked’ out Schivas 2009 (Reloaded)

They are Slovenia’s top ska/swing/punk band that started out 10 years a go as a trio and fast developed in to a six piece band that took Slovenia and Europe by the horns.

Now they were brought out to South Africa by Roadshock to trot there funky music form with a mixture of ska, swing, rockabilly, modern jazz, Cuban rhythms and Brazilian music, still infused with a dose of a punk-rock attitude!. After experience Red Five Point Star style you can understand why they are here to rock South Africa’s socks off. We expected an interesting show of this six piece band with singer/guitarist, keyboard player, drummer, bassist and double brass section (trumpets). But what didn’t expected was that, for their South African tour they would be joined by a South African bassist filling in for there bassist that gave their show an south African flavour.

Red Five Point Star is a band that bring a new meaning to reliving the 50’s with there unique mix of swing, punk and ska. They are a band for all ages, what we mean with that is even your grandparents and parents would bogey on the dance floor with their tunes and you wont be hearing them shouting out of the next room turn that racket down if you listening to Red Five Point Star cd at home.

Red Five Point Star infuse the oldies with there fresh style and the crowd goes wild with every one dancing and jumping around in circles on the dance floor. Most people thought the days of swing and punk was over but Red Five Point Star uniquely mix both genres together to create an experience that make you hanging off every word that is coming out of the vocalist mouth while the trumpets (brass section), keyboard, bassist and drums joins together to give a melody that keeps on running thru your mind. Red Five Point Star song are uplifting and give you a warm feeling as if you just swallowed that shot of Tequila, but instead of it lasting just a few minutes this feeling stays with you until Red Five Point Star set is finished.

With their song underground they start out with guitar blazing, trumpets, keyboard, bass and drums following shortly behind. This song is about all the politics and problems facing the world today and you can’t help but to join Red Five Point Star and start jump along. Their songs cover a wide spectrum from crime to there rendition of I am walking on sunshine. We must say that Red Five Point Star blew us away with their energy on stage and it is like being a kid again in a candy store and all you want to do is make the experience last longer.
